Race, Factions, Family and Friends
Boy, this was hard to write. What possessed me to come up with such a complicated concept as a starting character? *Gives the Lurker a dirty look.*
The Lurker: *looks innocent*

The Lurker is of the race of Ur-Concepts. They are Personifications (not originally anthropomorphic -- that came much later) of various abstract concepts. They condensed out of the primordial chaos before the material universe was created. They are much lesser beings, but they are of the same type as the Outer Gods/Great Old Ones of H.P. Lovecraft's Cthulhu Mythos (they're Old Ones, but not Great).

The "males" are Theses, representing more dominant concepts. The "females" are Antitheses, representing more dissenting concepts. This refers more to how the Ur-Concept relates socially to other Ur-Concepts rather than the exact concept it represents. Their children are Syntheses and represent a combination of the parents' Concepts. Once a Synthesis fully grows into its Domain it becomes and adult Thesis or Antithesis, as appropriate.

The Ur-Concepts are divided into a number of factions according to alignment. The Lurker was "born" among Lurkers on the Boundaries, or more informally the Boundarians. They represent states of Becoming and are associated with Chaos. Naming them by their primary Domains, the Lurker's father is Awareness and his mother is Negation. He has three older siblings (in order): Dissention (sister), Deception (brother), and Doubt (sister). The Lurker does not get along with his siblings, as his Domain is something of a negation of theirs (this often happens with the youngest Synthesis, and having Negation as your mother doesn't help). The conflict eventually drove him to leave his family at a too-young age (in Ur-Concept terms, still equivalent to billions of years in human terms).

The Lurker remained on good terms with his Boundarian "Uncle" War. Discovery/Invention walked hand-in-hand with War even back then. However, War didn't approve of the Lurker leaving his family so soon and refused to take him in.

He went to the Centrics, the Ur-Concepts representing states of Being and associated with Law. His Aunt Justice took him in. After all, Discovery is an integral part of the Justice process. If the Lurker needs a parent or guardian to sign something, or something like that, Aunt Justice will do it for him.

Among the Centrics he also met his childhood sweetheart, Wisdom. However Wisdom's older brother Ignorance was something of a bully and did not approve of the relationship. Ignorance did everything he could to make life difficult for the Lurker. (I'm skipping over some stuff here that's relevant to the Fort Mayhem character but not the Parthenon High one.) Eventually, after the creation of the material universe, the Lurker left for small, insignificant planet that would one day become known as Earth, then just forming a solid crust.

The Lurker hung around for a few billion years, watching the Earth evolve. Finally, sentient life arose. The Lurker tried to communicate with them, but was unsuccessful. They didn't want to Know. Ignorance still reigned supreme here. Then, around the time of Classical Greece, the Lurker became aware of a special school for beings something like himself. He enrolled, hoping to learn how to communicate his Discoveries to others.

L-Space excursion
L-Space, "For Dummies" Section
The Lurker checks out a copy of Cthulhu for Dummies, sort of a Necronomicon Lite. It's a well-worn volume. This isn't the first time the Lurker's checked it out.

L-Space, Humorous Fantasy Biology
The Lurker checks out a book on Ornithology.

The W-Space Annex
All libraries are connected to L-Space, including the online ones. Those scholars who prefer their Arcane Knowledge printed on dead-tree material refer to the online section as the "W-Space Annex," but this is misleading. The online section is actually many orders of magnitude larger than the printed collection. The Lurker strolls between shelves packed with glowing sheets and scrolls of pure information. Frequently he has to dodge the Search Engines, zipping up and down the aisles faster than the human eye can see. He doesn't need one himself. He knows where he's going.

The Krayon Kitty Klub. (There is no significance to the Lurker's choice of this particular site except that he knows it's a long-abandoned web site.) A cobweb site, abandoned for years, with many broken links, gradually decaying. Max Catnip's comic of origin. But the Lurker isn't interested in who may have been here in the past. He's looking for someone who might have taken up residence since then. Carefully, he pulls the pages apart. As expected, they are stuck together with multicolored silk.

"Hello," says a quiet, cultured voice. "What brings you to my parlor?" The speaker is a W-Space spider, Araneus literati uuspatia. A relative to the Literate Spider, like Charlotte in Charlotte's Web, but adapted to an online environment.

"I'm thinking of helping with some party decorations. Then I'd like some decorations for my room. I know what you like to eat, and I have plenty. Plus, I'm thinking of getting a porcine companion soon, and need someone to keep him company while I'm at work."

"How traditional," says the spider. "This place was getting boring, anyway. Very well, I'll come along."

The Lurker holds out his arm, and the spider climbs up to his shoulder. "They call me the Lurker," says the Lurker.

"Pleased to meet you. I'm Raleigh," says the spider.

The Lurker makes his way back to Hist-Div.

A couple more skills
* Historian -- The Lurker has been lurking on the Earth since it formed a solid crust, waiting for his player to evolve. He's thoroughly familiar with Earth history, including the funny bit right at the end when the mostly-hairless primates start causing trouble. Using this skill in tandem with his AP of Discovery skill, he's also good at recording history.
* Tenser Said the Tensor Calculus -- Basically a mind block/mind shield ability. It's a mathematical treatment of the mind-shielding principles exhibited by the "'Tenser,' said the Tensor" jingle from Alfred Bester's ''The Demolished Man''. The Lurker's kind are primarily mental beings, so mental combat is the most common form of conflict among them. He's well able to defend himself.

The Lurker's Skills
==Skill List==
The Lurker has picked up a few useful skills in his ~20 billion years of existence. Except for L-Space, this is all stuff that has already been used in role-play.
* Area Knowledge: L-Space -- The Lurker gained access to [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/L-Space#L-space L-Space] at a young age, when he was taking care of his family's Shadow Tomes (billions of years of memories from a dozen or so people make for quite an impressive library). He's spent aeons lurking amongst the twisty shelves of L-space. He knows the locations of tomes containing lore on just about any subject imaginable and a few that aren’t. He's also familiar with the W-Space Annex, where all the ''online'' libraries of the multiverse connect to L-Space.
* Anthropomorphic Personification of Discovery -- The Lurker is quite skilled with all methods of collecting, recording, and organizing information, from cave painting to wikis and digital video recorders.
* Combat -- During the CameoComic battle, the Lurker became an experienced fighter. He should be roughly equivalent to a 2nd Level D&D Rogue. He prefers backstabbing or sniping from a distance, because his 3D reaction times are slow and he can't take any damage without getting Popped. He can dodge into multidimensional space to avoid blows. This is not slow because he can use his full multidimensional mobility -- he's quite good at it. His preferred weapons are blades, a Beretta at point-blank range, or a sniper rifle at long range.
* Geek Lore -- Like his player, the Lurker has extensive knowledge of speculative fiction, comics, RPGs, computer games, the World Wide Web, and modern science and technology. His own background includes elements drawn from Douglas Adams, H.P. Lovecraft, Michael Moorcock, Terry Pratchett, and Roger Zelazny (the Amber series), not to mention various creation myths, Plato's philosophy, Christian and Gnostic theology, and modern physics and mathematics.
* Intuitive Mathematician -- In a sense, the Lurker and his kind are made up of alien geometry, and they dwell in highly non-Euclidean multidimensional space. They have an instinct for higher mathematics and complex geometry, since it's necessary to solve complex problems in those fields just to be able to move.
* Leet W-Space Skilz -- The Lurker has been lurking the World Wide Web since its inception, and knows it intimately from the bit level on up. He knows how to do just about anything that can be done with computers.
* Mythos Lore -- The Lurker is conversant with the Cthulhu Mythos. He recognizes the various entities, beasts, and cults, and knows their associated signs, symbols, and rituals. He is, in fact, a (very minor) Creature of the Mythos himself. Not being human, he can truck in Things Man Was Not Meant to Know without necessarily being driven insane by them. Of course, he's not sane by human standards in the first place... (Something to keep in mind if anyone attempts direct mental contact with him.)
* TV Tropes Have Ruined His Life -- Just as they ruined his player's life twenty years before [http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/HomePage TV Tropes] ever existed. He reads the site regularly (as new tropes are added all the time). He's quite familiar with the basic building blocks of narrative reality and usually recognizes them on sight.

To Do as of 8/30/07
* Interview returning invaders re EO invasion hopefully before counterattack commences.
* DONE Use iron, ironing board to put patch on armband.
* DONE Mobius position. Meditate on form and substance, being and becoming, supply and demand, chutes and ladders... Automate inventory so he can delurk/relurk with the armband on. Modify Shadow Copier to work with Infinite Scroll of Doomish (no more making paper out of masticated food). Modify Shadow Pen -- link to laptop.
* Practice with Beretta(?), TF gun (maybe there's a form that can fight, use on self? But don't get stuck in another meat-avatar, inconvenient things), blunt instruments. The problem is that the Lurker's current design can't be harmed and can't harm others. I think that's fair-ish and balanced. Adding combat ability may be unbalanced if not God-mod-ish.
* Cthulhu Fu refresher course. He's a few aeons out of practice.
* What to do with food? Start a mulch pile? Maybe take up gardening in MKRP? Needs to practice living normally among normal people.
* Do Hist-Div historians get paid? Is it negotiable in MKRP?
* Ask for more Hist-Div patches?
[edit 9/7/07]
* Follow up RAI's suggestion on getting a self-aiming or target-seeking weapon.

Hist-Div/CW
* Archive trawl Too Many Authors back to 5/24/07
* Write up summary of Operation Lagomorph for Mayhem wiki. Article currently has links but no summary.
* Write up Operation Hisarlisk for Crossover Wars article in Mayhem wiki
* I think Magical Misfits and Elvenbaath still have CW stuff happening, check those out.

Crossover Wars wiki
* Write what you know. Start on the Forum Wars.
* Articles on EO's: characters, resources
